Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after March of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
